The Research and Educational Support department is seeking a qualified candidate for the Storage Clerk position.
The position is located at 7500 Thomas Blvd (Library Resource Center) in Point Breeze and reports to the Library Collections Storage Unit (LCSU) supervisor. Hours of work are between 8:00am-6:00pm, Sunday through Thursday, and must consist of a 37.5 hour week. The LCSU provides high density retrievable storage and requires the operation of a hydraulic forklift that raises the operator and the lift to 30-foot high shelves. Responsibilities include retrieval and re-shelving of library materials, pulling requests from several online sources and preparing them for shipment to various libraries both on and off campus, emailing patrons concerning problems with requests, or about special requests, maintaining and updating item records in Voyager (database), providing a circulation point for the Library Resource Center and answering phone call questions concerning the LCSU. Supervision of several student workers and/or temporary employees in the absence of the LCSU supervisor.
Work originates per patron, internal, institution, or supervisory request (generally requested online). Requests are pulled and filled on a daily basis and require a less-than 24-48 hour turnaround. Basic knowledge of LC call number system, SuDoc number system, and USGS maps is required. Staff must also be able to recognize and properly handle items related to Special Collections. Other assignments and projects may or may not contain deadlines.
Equipment includes 2 hydraulic forklifts (recertification required every 3 years), various kinds of library warehouse book trucks, mail hampers, several PCs, laptops, photocopier, overhead scanner, 2 SATO printers, fax machine, UPS label printer and associated software. Confidential data includes personal and professional patron information.

High school graduate or equivalent is required. Some library experience is preferred, but not required. Some forklift experience is preferred, but not required.
Child Protection Clearances
The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
